Bio

Lily Hassioti (b. 1994) is a Greek artist based in London. Through process-based research, she creates site-specific projects, installations, moving images, and web-based works across various media.

Lily explores everyday interactions with mapping technologies and software, utilizing commercial navigation tools, algorithms, geographical information systems, electronic sensors, environmental data, and machine learning models in her projects. Her work questions our immersion in complex physical and computational environments, examining the role of perspective and embodiment, and the constant need for positioning and orientation.

Employing 'Mapp-ing' as a methodology, Lily unpacks existing mapping infrastructures, reflects on dominant technologies, revisits local knowledge, and creates new tools for encountering places. She harnesses mapping technologies' capacity to shape spatial, relational, and material understandings of the world, fostering new encounters with hybrid realities.
Lily's works are often participatory or interactive, reflecting on how we become part of cybernetic activities and feedback loops with software.

Lily is a founding member of Athens Open Studio, a space focusing on practice-led inquiry and creative education since 2018. In 2020 she was awarded the ARTWORKS fellowship by Stavros Niarchos foundation. She completed her undergraduate studies in Fine Art (2016) in DJCAD in Dundee, Scotland where she received the RSA John Kinross scholarship to Florence. Currently, Lily is a postgraduate student in Goldsmiths University, completing an MFA in Computational Arts, with a scholarship by NEON organisation.
